ARC shortlisted for a fourth award in 2016!

15 July 2016

At the 20th Anniversary Construction News Awards last night, ARC Building Solutions were shortlisted in the category of Commercial Innovation of the Year. ARC T-Barrier® was shortlisted against A-one+, Asset International, C-Probe Systems, Miller UK & Hewden Stuart, Nationwide Platforms, SGN, Tarmac, VPS Site Security and Costain. All finalists had to make one-to-one presentations to a panel of judges to present their ideas and why their ‘Commercial Innovation’ should win. ARC T-Barrier, which has already successfully gained a Housebuilder Product Award (Best Building Fabric Product) and CEYH Constructing Excellence Award (Innovation), and will now compete further in the Housebuilder Awards and National Constructing Excellence Awards, both being held in November.

Andrew Danzey, Director at ARC said ‘The judging process was very thorough, but being able to make a presentation to fellow industry professionals allowed us to explain why the simplicity of the ARC T-Barrier works. The collaborative testing we have done has allowed us to prove why it performs better than alternative products, and has enabled us to successfully present it to several large housebuilders who have included it in their specifications. We are delighted that it has received the recognition it deserves.’

ARC team raise more than £2800 for the Lymphoma Association

13 July 2016

On what seemed to be the wettest windiest day of the year, on July 9th over 30 colleagues, friends and extended family set off up Snowdon in memory of our colleague Dave Kemp. With winds gusting at the top of up to 40 miles an hour, some of us made it half way, some three quarters, some right to the top. Three of us walked up a second mountain too!

The incredible team spirit and support from everyone throughout the adventure was second to none. With ages ranging from 8 years old to 71, we all got involved and hope Dave would have been very proud.

We have smashed the target we set ourselves and have so far raised over £2800 for the Lymphoma Association. Once we have collected everything, we are confident that the final figure raised will be over £3000. Donations are still coming in to our just giving page, if you would like to add anything more, you can do so here; www.justgiving.com/in-memory-of-dave-kemp

Third Award Win for ARC in 3 days

4 July 2016

At the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Awards on Friday 1st July, ARC Building Solutions celebrated a third award-win in three days.

“The judges were impressed by the winning organisation. They saw a need, understood the key challenge, and designed a product that directly confronted that challenge. It is backed up with sound academic data, it is continuously being improved, and as well as meeting the needs of the Building Regulations, it has been accepted by the major house builders, which in itself is a challenge.”

As a winner of these regional awards, ARC will now be moved through to the national awards in the category of innovation, held later in the year.

ARC Building Solutions have been working closely with the Centre for the Built Environment department at Leeds Beckett University since March 2013. Initially, Leeds Beckett assisted ARC Building Solutions to carry out thermal calculations on the efficiency of the ARC T-Barrier. The thermal models show that the ARC T-Barrier can be 20% more effective than systems currently in use. Further tests undertaken by Leeds Beckett University, have shown that the T-Barrier offered a more effective seal when tested against other conventional systems.

In June 2015, Leeds Beckett carried out an air tight test on the ARC T-Barrier using a timber frame rig set up in ARC’s factory. This ground-breaking test is the only effective test currently available to assess whether products form an effective edge seal. The test also trialled the standard barrier either side of the party wall. The ARC T-Barrier was found to provide three times the pressure differential compared to the conventional cavity barrier system and nearly twice the pressure differential of the Airtightness Membrane employed by some house builders.

The judges at the RISE awards made the following comments about the ARC T-Barrier;

“ARC are to be commended on their approach to research and development. The construction of a test rig and use of a leading research team to test and analyse the data is a significant step forward in addressing the performance gap and producing energy efficient buildings”

“This is a step change for party wall edge seal. The tests suggest weaknesses in conventional systems that can be overcome by better insulants that offer a better geometric fit and function to prevent the passage of heat and smoke.”
