Director of HR & Learning & Development
Starting her HR career in 2002, Tanya Traill, ARC Building Solutions’ Director of HR & Learning & Development thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment so when the opportunity to join ARC arose, she jumped at the opportunity, she tells us why: “The foundation of my career has really been as a HR generalist but as I’ve advanced my skills and my experience I’ve really switched on to the vast opportunity of strategic HR – it goes way beyond the delivery of sound HR practices, it’s very much about delivering real business value through a clear, strategic HR roadmap.”
Joining the business in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic, Tanya was immediately thrust into the complexities of navigating the regulations surrounding compulsory shut-down, a period she is keen to reflect on: “I’m fairly well accustomed to the reactionary side of HR having previously worked in businesses going through TUPE and redundancy, but the pandemic was a new layer of complexity without the guidance and regulatory framework HR professionals are accustomed to, so it was a very volatile and highly reactionary period. That said, it also really cemented relationships within the business and as part of the leadership team, it enabled us to forge a strong bond, which now, two years on, has brought about real positivity.
“As the business grows year-on-year, the function of HR and training has also changed dramatically. We’re going through a period of significant growth and alongside my colleagues we are shifting our emphasis towards a business with a far greater digital footprint, we are well on track to deliver a fully automated HR services, making it even easier for us to share critical people-related business information with colleagues.
“The development of our processes is just one priority, since my appointment we have completely transformed the shape of our workforce. Our emphasis is focused on skills and training and as a result the quality and output of our product is market-leading and consistent.
“Upskilling is such an important part of the ARC story and we have a strong emphasis on people-development and skills improvement. The key to success for this business is ensuring that every ARC colleague – whether they’re a day shift or a night shift colleague – have the opportunity to grow and progress. That’s a tremendous environment to work in and I am delighted to be part of a business where the needs of our people really are at the heart of our decisions.”
